The man who not only called countless AFL games, but also many Olympic swimming events including Sydney 2000

Vale Mr “centimetre perfect” – May he rest in peace

Oh we’ve lost a good one here. A treasured voice of a generation and across so many sports.
    He will be missed

  3. A lovely bloke Dennis. Often saw him on Saturdays outside Freo oval waiting to be picked up by a friend and he’d always say G’day and have a chat.

  4. “Bobbing up and down like a cork in the ocean” – thanks for the memories Dennis – RIP ol mate

Met him during some work experience at channel 9, the absolutely nicest guy there, made me feel really welcome. Will be missed.

Truly the greatest to ever do it- we’ve not had a commentator who can approach his class and finesse since, and I doubt we ever will. A great loss for Australia 🙁

What a legend. He went in optimistically and came out misty optically!

One of the voices of my generation 🙏🏽

A wonderful commentator and personality who we have not seen the like of since. I also would say he was one of the rare commentators who didn’t allow personal biases for particular teams to show in his commentary RIP

Will miss his dulcet tones. Loved Den’s commentary. They should dedicate the entire season to him.

    RIP.

That’s man’s voice was a huge part of my footy childhood.

It feels like part of my childhood is gone with his passing

Oh my god. The greatest commentator in this country’s history, along with Richie, although they’re a different beast cause Richie was a cricket commentator, not a general sports commentator.

Dennis and Richie, the two greatest Australian callers of their respective sports (Cometti also did cricket once upon a time, if I’m not mistaken!). May they now be reunited in the great commentary box in the sky, RIP Dennis.

Edit: yeah, I should’ve read the article first. Says he did Test cricket for the ABC in the 70s. Didn’t know he did Olympics commentary too, what a multifaceted great! 🙁
