Ladies and gentlemen, here is the annual reminder to follow Giò and Giulia, now an annual tradition of the diver and claimed by the trust masco_da_gama!

For those who are not yet aware of this exciting event, since 2014 a pair of peregrine falcons, Giulia and Giò, have chosen the roof of Pirellone as the place to lay their eggs and give birth to their chicks. They returned every year, and the Lombardy region decided to install a webcam to be able to observe them: https://mediaportal.regione.lombardia.it/portal/watch/live/17

Last year the first baby was born on April 7th and Fiocco, Olimpia and Bob were born, so called after the annual totonomi with names inspired by the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics.

So far two eggs have been laid, one on Saturday and one yesterday.

To reread the discussions of past years: here is the post del 2025, post del 2024, post del 2023 and the post del 2022.

Find lots of information and updates on the specially created Facebook page and up this group where you can also find updates from previous years, especially album for the last few years.

Here you will find the identikit of the peregrine falcon edited by Gianluca Serra. Also this page of the Lombardy Region It has a lot of information, and answers many questions, such as:

Why did the peregrine falcons choose to stop at the Pirelli Skyscraper? It is a prominent point compared to a series of squares that surround it, it is a sleeping area for starlings and pigeons. The trailblazer was probably a young peregrine who found an available food source in the area close to a potential nest. Furthermore, the night lighting of the streets allows you to observe the flight of migratory birds over the city and makes them easy prey for peregrine falcons.

why are they called Giò&Giulia? The names of the two birds of prey were chosen in homage to Giò Ponti, the great architect who designed the Pirelli skyscraper, and his wife Giulia Vimercati.

Are the Pirelli players always the same couple or can each of them change partners? Peregrine falcons remain in the same pair for their entire lives, in the event of the death of one of the two the survivor mates again. The couple spotted at the Pirelli Skyscraper is always the same and returns every year.

Like every year, happy bird watching!

PS I ask the mods u/MyPendrive e u/LaTalpa123 a special flair to celebrate this annual event, which has now become part of the diving tradition!
