While it doesn’t look good and I think Chisolm is mostly useless, he was CMA Chief Exec, BEIS Perm Sec, and CO Perm Sec. It’s hard to find a UK sector outside his influence.
He made the decision over eight years ago, not last year to prepare for an obvious role.

Good for him. I’ve worked with considerably worse CS that needed sacking ten years ago

Who knows how these high level bigwigs operate but the govt watchdog was ok with it. Let’s hope his new job is bricklaying at HPC to get it online a bit quicker.
