    1. Finnish Maiden is earlier creation than these borders. It orininates from Aura Maiden. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, artists shaped her form to match Finland’s map, not the other way around. It was a part of a wider Nordic tradition of national female personifications: Sweden’s Mother Svea, Denmark’s Mother Denmark, and Iceland’s Lady of the Mountain.

      And just to add: Petsamo became part of Finland as a compromise over Repola and Porajärvi, and historically it wasn’t considered part of Finland. Petsamo was a part of Finland only about 24 years.

    2. Or if you zoom out a little bit and include Sweden, Sweden is the dick and Finland is the ball sack.

      Expelling Karelian people from there and resettling those areas with Russians from south Russia 1945 was crime against humanity just like nazi death camps. But it was okay for Roosevelt and Churchill.

      And modern day Russians arent feeling any guilt about it.
