It was an amazing game by Australia as they pushed the reigning world champions to their limit. No one expected Australia would take this juggernaut Japan team this far. Australia faces South Korea with the chance to get out of the group of death into the knockout round.
How good is Australia at baseball? If Australia almost lost to Japan at cricket it would be pretty embarrassing, would this be an equivalent result?

I was going to have a dig at some of the mistakes the Australian side made, but I’ve changed my mind. I don’t play and they’re representing Australia, I shouldn’t be picky. The Aussies almost beat the best national baseball team in the world, nice one boys.
A lot of people in the crowd wearing Aussie colours or with signs too, lovely.

Yeah; watched some of the game at a HUB last night. We did pretty decently I reckon.

That missed double play that led to scoring immediately after . . . ouch.
You could see the Japanese players at the end the though: there was a few puffed out cheeks and side-eyes along the lines of “sheeee-it, we scraped through on that one.”
Fun to watch it here in Japan though. Everyone is super pumped.

Honestly just keeping Japan to such a low score in the Toyko dome with the Emperor watching and ohtani playing was an effort and a half.
I fully recommend if there’s an ABL team near you and the league is playing go watch it. Yes it’s not MLB quality but it’s a pretty fun time especially for kids.

Didn’t even know we had a national team that played in such tournaments to be honest

Our defence is pretty solid. Out mostly abl pitchers works well enough, we need just more firepower in the batting lineup.
Australia is the talk of the town!!! We over at r/baseball are in awe over you folk, we love your team!
You guys have all the talent, you just need to get more interested! Please, I beg you! I would love for Australia to be a baseball powerhouse, and that’s totally within your potential. Go to your local games, play in the parks, get the kids involved!
You got Travis Bazzana he’s a total stud! Number 1 pick in MLB and he’s been killin it.
Australia could totally become a baseball powerhouse.

would be nice if that translated into support for the ABL. Its not a bad standard, and a fun day out but struggles for money. So much so that the biggest club from melbourne is now playing in the korean league

Was a super admirable performance. To think that if the throw to first hit and we got the double play (in I forget which innings) we probably would have won hurts, but you can’t complain with a 3-4 result again Japan. The match against Korea tonight is gonna be a cracker though!
