Normalized against total restaurant counts in a 7×7 mi grid search. Sure seems to be a NorCal thing (excluding some major sandwich lovers in Reno lol).

I made this because I think it's super weird that other places don't have this absolutely delicious sandwich bread.

  2. San Jose native. It’s because that stuff tears up the roof of your mouth if it’s fresh. People here have been naturally selected for camel-palates by now.

It’ll take a few generations for people to catch on and eat it upside down.

  3. Huh, I moved to NorCal from the UK and just assumed Dutch Crunch was a nationwide thing. TIL otherwise, I guess.

  4. What the fuck, I thought it was a normal thing everywhere. Dutch crunch is the best

  5. You can thank Genoa’s delicatessen for that. Their Dutch crunch sandwiches are the stuff that dreams are made of.

I had it for the first time last month at a place called Ghost Sando here in LA at Grand Central Market. I loved it.

  7. It’s all because of a single sandwich shop in half-moon Bay. It was a hardware store that sold sandwiches. But the sandwiches took over. Their bread is a closely guarded family secret.
