Does anyone here know if they are trying to translate the term "excited delirium" here as delirium tremens? The situation is a bit familiar, but it is precisely a made-up syndrome invented by police officers in the USA to explain homicides caused by police when they accidentally beat someone to death (historically most often black people).

Since then, this imaginary syndrome has been used in the context of deaths associated with Axon’s Tasers, and it occurred to me that our heroes here in Iceland may be borrowing this term from their counterparts in the US in addition to Tasers.

At least it fits this case pretty well: "The forensic pathologist who dissected Hekla Linda’s body believed that she had a so-called delirium syndrome before she died. A significant factor in her death would have been the fact that she was kept in a forced position with pressure on her chest which could have inhibited her ability to breathe"

Of Wikipedia: " In the U.S., neurologists writing for the Brookings Institution called it "a misappropriation of medical terminology, used by law enforcement to legitimize police brutality and to retroactively explain certain deaths occurring in police custody".
