I ride around the city almost every day and usually use apps like Strava to track my rides. But after a while I realized that most apps are mainly focused on performance, speed, and statistics.

While riding, I started wondering if there could be a way to make everyday cycling a bit more fun and motivating. Things like small missions, challenges, or some kind of point system when you ride.

Since I’m a developer, I ended up building something myself. That’s how my app UpaonBike started. The idea is to turn normal rides into small challenges.

But I’m actually more curious about what other cyclists think.

What would motivate you to open a cycling app before or after a ride?
Missions? Personal goals? A local leaderboard?

If anyone is curious, this is the app I’ve been working on recently:

Any feedback, ideas, or suggestions are very welcome.

Urban cyclists: what would motivate you to use a cycling app besides Strava?

    1. Hi! Looks nice, but would be grate to be able to sync it with some devices – I record everything with suunto watch and won’t use the phone at all while riding

I uninstalled Strava the second it got to me that it is a social media platform. I just want the good old Sports tracker back to track my sports and IF I WANT, I may or may not share my results in another social media platform.

    3. Why are you advertising this on the Finland sub instead of any of the many cycling subs? Those would likely be a lot more receptive.

I just ride and enjoy it. What would/could an app add to that? Some things are improved by apps

Idk anything about cycling. But that app name is a nightmare. How do you even pronounce it?
