Today I’m home sick and instead of doing something productive I made this little presentation analyzing the answers to this post which I did a few days ago.
The answers considered are those in the comments made up to yesterday where the desire to learn a certain language or an interest in it was clear.
Some considerations
- There is a clear preference for Eastern languages, Romance languages and Germanic languages.
- A fourth overall place could be given to Slavic languages, mainly thanks to Russian.
- As many as 5 ancient languages appear: Ancient Greek, Latin, Sanskrit, Old Church Slavonic and even Middle High German.
- The languages of the Indian sub-continent are clearly the least represented, both those of the Indo-European branch (which, at least, sees Hindi and Nepali represented), and the Dravidian one (southern India).
- Despite the Italians’ ostentatious antipathy for their cousins from beyond the Alps, the Frenchman took a solid third place (in reality he was tied with the Chinese, but the podium was easier to represent).
- The Italy of Reddit, despite the recent popularity of Korea, remains firmly dominated by Japan minkia.
The asterisks in the presentation are:
- Urdu* – I don’t quite understand whether it is actually a different language from Hindi (which appears among the answers) or whether it is a Serbo-Croatian situation
- Indonesian* – one user expressed interest in the languagewhich however could be either the Malaysian (Malay language), and Indonesian (Indonesian). Since I didn’t know what he was referring to I excluded this answer.

Io vorrei imparare l’esperanto
il francese al terzo posto anche no. ma dove sta finendo il nostro paese? l’odio per la francia e i francesi? una delle poche cose oltre al “non si spezzano gli spaghetti” che ci tiene tutti uniti. ok c’é stata la parentesi expedition 33 ma ragazzi é la francia…

Il cinese non mandarino sarebbe anche figo, ma penso che il loro governo stia attuando politiche… di assimilazione
Nessuno qua che vorrebbe imparare il lituano? Mi sono persa il sondaggio.

Penso che per il cinese sia più comune 中文 oppure 汉语.
Islandese? Capisco che i padovani e il circondario si sentono gran dottori in confronto agli altri veneti, ma dire che hanno una lingua tutta loro a sè stante è esagerato…
Per tradurre cinese mandarino avresti dovuto scrivere 普通话/国语，anche se visto che molti hanno detto semplicemente risposto “cinese” alla fine bastava 中文
Io parlo giapponese fluentemente (passo molto tempo in giappone, moglie giapponese etc) e vi confermo che il giapponese, se non vivete in giappone, non serve davvero a un cazzo, il 99.9% delle persone che lo impara non lo parlerà mai abbastanza bene perché gli sia mai utile, e il giapponese degli anime non lo parla nessuno.
Insomma non voglio uccidere il vostro sogno nerd ma per me è una gran perdita di tempo.
Se potessi scambiarlo con QUALSIASI altra lingua lo farei.
Oh the humanity
Sono molto sorpreso dal giapponese. Lingua carina ma è come l’italiano, serve poco.
L’arabo invece…
Godo per la menzione d’onore nell’originalità per il comanche. Sapevo che passare 4 ore della mia vita a capire cosa ci fosse di sbagliato nella frase “eka kwitsu baitʉ̠ oha(pi̠tʉ, questo è l’errore) papi” mi avrebbe ripagato prima o poi.
