This is interesting, there’s one within walking distance of my house, super nice by a lake near me. I had no idea there were THAT many though, cool!

More people play disc golf than I have at Dunkin.

2x more people per hour than pickleball, at the low low cost of about 25x the acreage, and I couldn’t even guess how many times more resources consumed in course maintenance. Dumb comparison

Massachusetts has 108 disc golf courses.
Massachusetts also has 1000+ Dunkin Donuts.
The Dunkin locations are uniquely skewed to the Northeast and New England, so it’s not a great comparison at a national or local level.
11k disc golf courses is far more than I expected though, and I’ve played disc golf in 4 different states.

This number of courses seems suspect. How many “holes” does one need to qualify as a “course”?

Distorting the truth a bit…
“disc golf serves twice as many people per hour than pickleball”
Not sure how this is calculated. 21.2m rounds of disc golf vs. estimated billion+ pickleball matches. (Number is so big and played so often it is hard to calculate.)
Some estimates – 50+ million people play pickleball each year in the USA. vs 4m per year WW for disc golf. Even if all were in the US, that would be a tenth of pickleball play.
Dunkin serves 3+m per day in the USA. Or close to a billion a year. Disc golf, less than 1 round per day… WW.

On one hand, I’m charmed that they included a sources + methods section. On the other, here’s what it says:
>Sources + methodology
>Facts and figures in the Disc Golf Growth Report are primarily derived from course and participation records collected from players who use UDisc, the leading smartphone app for disc golfers. Our team also conducts interviews with players, as well as in-app and email surveys, which are referenced throughout. The information in this year’s report is the most accurate and up-to-date presentation of how disc golf is played on UDisc, including figures for previous years.
>External sources used in the report include Dunkin’, Taco Bell, Domino’s, The World Happiness Report, Fish Golf Brah-dcast, The Compendium of Physical Activities, National Golf Foundation, and The Sports Facilities Companies.

These very obviously are not reliable figures.
