I was at the show, and you have to have seen the entire thing. Not everything was funny, but he had a better grasp of politics, history, culture and identities than most comics I’ve seen. To just see this snippet taken out of context doesn’t say anything.

Both the Sami and the Norwegians are native to Norway.
What confuses people is that Norway today is not the same as Norway 1,000 years ago. Norway today does indeed comprise areas to the north, of which the Sami are native and Norwegians are not. This doesn’t mean, however, that the Sami are native to the whole of Norway and that the Norwegians are not.
The two peoples migrated into what is today Norway from two vastly different routes.

The Norwegians lived in ALL of Norway long time before the Finno – Ugric people arrived.
The comedian bombed because he assumed Norwegians came here after the Sami, but the Sami are a native Norwegian tribe made out of a mix of Norwegians (who already lived in Norway) and Finno-Ugric people who arrived around 3-4000 years ago. There had already been people in Norway for 8 – 9000 years when the Sami became a people….
