Yeah wtf they have done it every 6 months for a while now on their plans as well. Paying 84 a month now for what used to be 65 not long ago.
Bunch of cunts

Yo, those shareholders need those 20cents per share dividends.

It’s due to the rising petrol costs, it takes a lot to move all that data around.

Yes they have gone towards a model where they peg their plans to CPI.
Luckily we as consumers have the power to leave and go somewhere else.

I mean to be fair they’ve always been a rip off.
Think I pay $200~ per year prepaid with Kogan. More data and phone credit than I could ever use.

cant even get over 1 bar of signal in my part of the suburb i live in for over 3 years now, should be a new system that each bar of signal averaged out from your residence is what you pay for the month. 1 bar = 25% 2 bar = 50% 3bar = 75% full signal= 100. imagine how much better service they would provide if this happened. i get better signal in the pilbara desert 3 bars 90% of the time. grow up telstra do better.

Telstra is offering a $350 prepaid sim for 12 months with 300GB and unlimited calls. That seems good value to stay on the Telstra network, if you need it for rural coverage.

My plan used to be $50 a month. It’s now $74 a month.

I’ve used Kogan prepaid for nearly 10 years, for $40 I get 100gb a month via the Vodafone network.
Price hasn’t gone up once since I started, in fact the value has doubled. It was $40 for 40gb month at the time, it has slowly ticked up and up over the years to 100gb now (they also roll over data each month, haven’t used 100% of it in years)
Worth a look if anyone is exploring options

To the people asking WhY u WiTh TeLsTrA tHeN?1! I’m with Telstra because all the other providers I’ve tried – Optus, Voda and amaysim (fucked if I’m trying any more.) do not work where I am 5km from a CBD 😔 little to no service all the time…. Internet slower than dial up. That is why I’m choosing to get shafted by Telstra, I literally have no other option.

Boost do 12 month $300 for 300gb $25 a month for 25gb is pretty good, then it’s $330 for 380gb

Post paid going up as well using the bullshit excuse that as they have more users they have to spend more on the network. What a load of shit.
OkBumblebeer on
Yep I started paying $30 for 30 days years ago and it has slowly gone up and bumped itself back to 28 days and currently paying $39 and it’s going up to $44
I live in the country and they still have the best signal strength but maybe I should look at another retailer using their network because this is getting stupid.

I’m going to change! I overpay already with Telstra and they’re increasing it again.

ahh, I see many are too young to remember how Telstra and other telcos used to charge 25 cents per SMS even though it was later found out it costs them 1 cent.
that’s a 2400% markup

Telstra are regulated to provide extremely expensive coverage in distant regional areas. City dwellers on Telstra subsidise rural communication infrastructure costs.
If you don’t need Telstra remote coverage, you’ll save a heap by not using their service..
If you do need that coverage, expect to pay more. Simple.

Absolute highway robbery! I switched to Vodafone 2 months ago, after the first increase. I pay $30 a month for 25GB, and anything unused gets rolled over. I’m currently on 196GB in rolled over data.
The plan itself is $35 for 25GB, but if you set up auto recharge is only $30.

I’m on Aldi mobile. Uses the Telstra network. It’s not perfect in its coverage but at the price ($28 for 5G), I can’t complain. Currently have like 678GB data rolled over too.

If you are leaving Telstra, check if you have any Rewards points left to be able to get something from their Rewards store before you depart. Might as well take what you can.
Don’t rely on mobile network coverage indoors. I currently use Telstra close to the Sydney CBD and barely manage a single bar indoors. Where possible if you have home internet, you are generally better off using WiFi calling and just turn off mobile data whilst home. I use a shortcut to turn off Mobile Data whilst home and auto-enable it again when I leave home. Reason for doing this is that a mobile phone constantly trying to negotiate a signal with the network, drains your battery = shortens the life of your phone.
Also worth checking how much mobile data you actually use to size a new provider plan correctly. Again at home, my phone is only using my home’s internet. My actual use outside of the home is not that much given how much data is compressed these days.

– Wholesalers and resellers pretty much all cap the network speed, some down to even 4g speeds. Fine if you don’t need it. Telstra knows this.
– Optus is a piece of shit company that fucked everyone over with a massive data breach. Telstra knows this.
– Vodafone has network gaps all over the place. Telstra knows this.
If you find a reseller or alternate major retailers service acceptable then you are not the target market for Telstra.

I was going to make a post like this in /perth but didn’t.
Increasing prices yet the network is becoming 10x worse. Confusing as hell.
Last year for 4 months straight had bills refunded partially due to consistent damaged towers in my local area. I’d like to see Telstra actually fix their shit.
