I have no idea why discussion about Russia is so absent from British politics. When Moscow’s equivalent of GB News run simulations of a nuclear war, it’s always the British isles ans never Poland, America, Lithuania, Ukraine that gets the first strike.

It’s dangerous to not be able to recognise why those figures are such threats and I’d be concerned about any politician (or even the interviewer) who would suggest otherwise.

Most of the evil leaders in history gained power because they were very competent at politics, public speaking, or political intimidation. The second we start pretending that Hitler wasn’t an exceptionally skilled public speaker it’s impairs our ability to determine the next leader of his ilk.

My great grandfather fought in both WWI and WWII and I remember him well when I was younger, the stories he used to tell about his experience were horrifying.

Russia and China have generally played the long term political game well, at least until Putin’s invasion. And given how ineffectual the West was, as well as energy dependence (see previous point) it’s quite easy to see how he felt he could get away with it.
I don’t like these regimes in the slightest, but it is fair to acknowledge they’re run rings around short sighted Western politicians for decades.

On Friday he suggested Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky should enter negotiations with Russia, although he acknowledged Kyiv’s Western allies will continue support to support them.
Mr Farage said: “This war has been going on for years, it is likely to go on for many, many more years.
“We’re looking at something like a million casualties between the two sides.”
Mr Farage added: “I’m not saying we shouldn’t support Ukraine at all, not for one minute, but at the end of the day most wars end in negotiation and I fear, if we don’t find some way of at least sitting down and talking, that we’re going to finish up with a war that goes on for year after year after year.”
