I got off the tram yesterday at this 'temporary tram stop' and wondered why it isn't the permanent stop?
Instead, the #30 and #35 trams stop at that railing (at the intersection of La Trobe and Victoria St) where alighting passengers have to weave their way between the railing and tram and then wait to safely cross to the island opposite.
Anyone able to explain why this much better option isn't the permanent stop?

Why is there a dementor waiting for a tram?
Is that a human size crow??
Krobus?!
I love how no one is answering your question but focusing on the dementor instead. It was quite the jumpscare until I zoomed in.
Because this one is really close to the next one at St Vincent’s
THE FUCK IS THAT?
This was a former stop of the 30 & 35 before it was removed during the La Trobe Street upgrade works mid-2024.
I have wondered this too! Why not delete the current stop and use this?
I feel it would be pretty easy to turn into a level boarding stop too
Probably more people want to get to the south side Latrobe city buildings than the park most of the time (non big event days).
And stopping before the intersection allows the trams to let people on and off before the lights, which keeps the tram moving faster.
Plus the park/exhibition building is serviced by the next stop anyway.
I assume traffic light timing and the fact there are stops 100m away in either direction that provide better access to permanent attractions
now that’s interesting. can we have more temporary trams stops? because that is very interesting.
Because it makes sense and actually serves a purpose. We cant have that in Melbourne.
I imagine so people aren’t crossing Victoria St so much after alighting from trams. The interchange at the la trobe Victoria St intersection is a bit of a mess, and adding a tram stop in the middle of that intersection would not help.
I literally thought that was a lady wearing a blanket pretending to be a ghost… I had to zoom
I’m just glad everyone else can see them
