I am from USA. My family left Latvia during World War II. I got a new tattoo with a picture from the book my mom read to us every night; she died last year.

I wanted to see it and remember that she always told me, “The only way out is through it.” At the same time, I realized that I don’t have any tattoos related to my father’s family yet, and it seemed appropriate to refer to the fact that my family had to leave Latvia, especially since I no longer speak the language – that’s why I chose the words of the book in Latvian. I hope it’s right, I’m translating because I don’t speak the language myself – my grandmother does it 🤣🥲

    1. What a wonderful tattoo with a meaningful backstory. Surely a conversation starter. The word choice is on point, so no worries!
