Extract:
Hundreds of thousands of residents across Sydney’s lower and upper north shore have been urged to conserve water and cut back on non-essential use after a major water main broke last night, flooding critical equipment.

Sydney Water said the break happened at their West Ryde pumping station on Wednesday night, which has limited the amount of drinking water that can be transferred to local reservoirs to meet demand.

Edit: The article does say that drinking water is fine. They're just asking people to minimise non-essential use.

Allambie Heights, Artarmon, Cammeray, Castle Cove, Castlecrag, Chatswood, Chatswood West, Cremorne, Crows Nest, East Killara, East Lindfield, East Ryde, Ermington, Gladesville, Gordon, Greenwich, Hunters Hill, Huntleys Point, Killara, Kirribilli, Lane Cove, Lane Cove West, Lindfield, Longueville, Meadowbank, Mosman, Narremburn, Neutral Bay, North Ryde, North Willoughby, Northbridge, Putney, Pymble, Riverview, Roseville, Roseville Chase, Rydalmere, Ryde, St Leonards, Tennyson Point, Waverton, West Pymble, West Ryde, Willoughby, Wollstonecraft, Woolwich.

Damn. I’d start to hoard but all my jerry cans are already filled with diesel.

Damn, about to head home and lay some pipe. I don’t think half flush will cut it with this one. 😮‍💨

Does Sydney Water ever actually contact customers when stuff like this happens? I only ever seem to find out about it via social media!

  4. I’m in one of those suburbs and would have heard absolutely nothing if not for Reddit!

Well maybe if I didn’t have to be on hold for over an hour to report leaking pipes

As if the people there are going to go easy on the water. They will use as much as humanly possible til it runs out

  7. first I’ve heard of it – If they aren’t reaching out to residents in those areas I guess they’re really not that concerned.

  8. Allambie Heights seems a bit of a random island of drought included in that list. Non of the surrounding areas, Brookvale, Balgowlah, Beacon Hill, Frenches Forest, Forestville, Killarney Heights,…?

  9. Surely this isn’t going to cause panic buying of water bottles from the affected residents, right?

    Right…?
