the ampol near me said they have a week of petrol left & they’re not sure they’ll get more

There are only 3 distributors in Sydney, and zero refineries:
• Ampol at Kurnell
• Viva Energy at Clyde
• ExxonMobil at Silverwater
All refineries and importers in Australia have stated they are prioritising their own stations.
So if you’re BP, Metro or any of the independents in Sydney, you’re in trouble.
If you see a 7-Eleven, Coles Express or Ampol empty, that’s something more noteworthy.
This will vary state to state. Different states have different terminals.

I think we will kind of be ok but shortages are really going to kick in over teh next few weeks. It has been going on for a month and we will need to get fuel shipments from further afield. Thankfully there are oil reserves so we should get some fuel for a couple of months after that but I think diesel is going to be hard to come by due to the mining industry having contracts with distributors which could lead to some issues with food and supermarket supply chains. I’m definitely building up a food stockpile in the freezer.

I’ve tuned out of the news cycle the past few weeks because… *gestures at the world* burnout and overwhelm.
Is anything being done to safeguard our supply and is there any cost relief or anything coming? Shit feels grim.
