So, how far to jump between the moons when they are closest?

Is this real footage? Or a replication? Seen this before and it’s so incredible

Europa is about 90% the size of Earth’s Moon (I looked it up).

Honestly kinda sad how few sci fi movies are set in just our solar system like this shot is super cinematic.

This is so cool. How much time is passing in the animated images?

What’s crazy about this gif is that Io (closer to Jupiter) orbits faster than Europa, but because the spacecraft was moving past the moons in the opposite direction, it looks like Europa is orbiting faster than Io.
Critical-Loss2549 on
Wait, why is the moon closest to Jupiter going slower?

I have an emotional attachment to these moons thanks to The Expanse

What a monster. I love Jupiter.

Europa is theorized to have water and thus, life.

This is so beautiful. It fills me with awe at the vastness and the majesty of our little piece of the cosmos.
Thank you.

So hypothetically…Jupiter blows up.

Bro where the fuck are the mods. Is AI-“enhanced” and bullshit with misleading or often just FALSE titles not against the rules? Feel like all I see is this crap

I was 10 years old when it launched in 1997 and they showed a video on the mission in science class. I remember wondering what I would be doing in that incredibly far off time of the mid 2000s when it would reach Saturn.

IIRC, that mission had a 100% success rate or at least close to 100%.

This solar system is yours but do not attempt to land on Europa.

Do those two moons react to each others gravity?

I call cap. Europa is way bigger than Io.

I keep expecting a tight formation of X-Wings to fly towards them from the foreground

That’s cool as hell considering the scale of what we’re looking at in this video. Absolutely awesome NASA!

Stupid question, but can they get close enough to have an effect on the tidal heating that occurs on both moons?

Wow, I’m in the middle of reading 2010: Odyssey Two right now and seeing this is a perfect illustration of the scenery of the book!

How far apart are Io and europa?

The view from either of those Moons must be breathtaking.
“small moons”
They’re the 4th and 6th largest we know of. The Earth’s Moon is 5th, for comparison.
Cant imagine how terrifying it would feel living on those moons and Jupiter is your horizon 24/7..
Amazing what humans have accomplished.
This is so genuinely incomprehensible.
Well this is easily one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen
The perspective or magnification or something makes it look like they just skimmed past each other. They must be much further apart than it looks.
As a destiny player it’s cool to see them.
That was me. I took that video.
Beautiful! Reiterates how small we are.

We’re not supposed to land there.
