Reading through this article, politics in Malta came to mind.
Whoever is in Government seems to forget that their purpose is to manage the resources of the State for the good of everyone, starting with those who do not have interests.
I wonder when the time of independence of thought, and proper public pressure, will come for Malta.

I think you have been misled. The purpose of being elected into government in Malta is to consolidate limited resources to yourself as the elected official and your supporters. This is why politicians enter politics and why their supporters vote for them. Understand this fundamental, and you will have a clearer picture of Maltese public life. As for the US, this is just blowing off steam.
Independence of thought is bribed by Ministers in Malta.
The Maltese always look at personal gain over common good… will never happen due to this culture.
Difficult in Malta due to rampant clientalism and the way that people, especially the older generations, are kept dumb thanks to TVM (as well as political stations) and the continual bombardment of pro government propaganda on social media which is about to get much worse…
There is so much political philosophy, both classical and contemporary, written and debated. There’s no need for anyone to be wise about anything; there’s no writing on the wall for anyone to interpret; everything is in books and essays already; and there’s past experiences of civilisations past and present for any reference when needed.
Since when have elected officials, public servants, ever served the public? In any country. Fuck politicians.
