
This 280-megapixel photo of the Eagle Nebula required 3 telescopes in two different states capturing over 1,300 individual photos, with a cumulative 114 hours of exposure.
To get the color right, I asked the extremely talented u/cathrinmachin for help. The results absolutely blew me away.

That is my new background for sure. One of the clearest cheapest space photos I’ve ever seen.

I’ve seen pics of the Pillars since I was a kid, mostly from deep space picture books from the 60’s and 70’s. Obviously this kind of detail wasn’t available then but is that why the images were limited to just that feature and not the whole nebula?
