Doesn’t it need tearing down as the metal is cracked or busted or warped, can’t remember – the reason for it shutting?

I can see it from my place, and if it’s moving now (1138 30/03/26) it’s at a glacial pace.

I look forward to the next 3 year news cycle of the star opening, facing reduced demand, funding concerns, and once again closing

They should build a theme park around it, maybe recreate some of the old attractions from Wobbies World. Might get a few people interested.

Instead of trying to make it what it’s not, a Ferris wheel, just open it as an attraction and spin it at a low speed without any people in it! It’s already got lights in it, cuz I loved how it looked at night, like a hope!! And before someone starts, us tax payers have already been paying for some ridiculous extravaganza n tunnels..Thisd be just loose change compared to that now, am I wrong?

I’m surprised they haven’t relocated it to Arthur’s seat with all the crap they’re trying to build down there.

Lots of hate for the big wheel but in 2015-ish, I got a yearly pass. It was about $55 and I used to take my toddler on it. Usually we had the cabin to ourselves. He got 30 minutes of stuff to look at and could wander around in the cabin and I got 30 minutes of air-con and other distraction-free engagement with him. It was great. Then they raised the price, then C19 hit and it’s been downhill since then.

I took an exchange student on it. I have no idea why. I think he wanted to go not me. The issue is that those wheels can be great but in the case of this one you can’t see anything!
I do remember probably about 10 years ago, a couple got in huge trouble for shagging not realising there were cameras lol

I never went on it during it’s first run. I reckon I’ll give it a go if it re-opens, if only to say that I’ve been on it

It is an eyesore in a terrible location. The District is a derelict waste in Melbourne and is only ever remotely active on Saturdays and Sundays. Otherwise it is a ghost town. If they want to draw in more people to the area, the wheel is not what will do it.
They need to clean up the area, get some businesses in the over 20 empty store fronts and remove the AI heavy shit. BUT I doubt they will spend any money to attract more people, dirty place will stay dirty.

Good luck to the new owners! they are long time carnies so know what they are doing
