Brian Cox says UK physics funding cuts are ‘destruction of the future’ https://www.theguardian.com/science/2026/mar/27/brian-cox-physics-unquantifiable-threat-university-funding-cuts
Adeldor on March 31, 2026 2:25 pm Probably unpopular observation/opinion, but it’s nevertheless what I see … I lived in the UK for a few years, albeit some time ago. I have family there still. Based on my experience, reports from said family, and what I read now, the UK has been suffering a long, grinding decline in everything from [industrial output](https://www.economicshelp.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/uk-manufacturing-share-gdp.jpg) to [freedom of speech.](https://www.thetimes.com/uk/crime/article/police-make-30-arrests-a-day-for-offensive-online-messages-zbv886tqf) Further, it was evident from the pay and treatment, engineers and others in technical disciplines were (are still?) not so highly valued. For the country that was responsible for the industrial revolution, had an amazing aerospace industry, and evolved modern democracy (after much bloodshed), I find it terribly sad.
