Hurstbridge line part suspended this morning, between Heidleberg and Clifton Hill.
Photos are of Heidelberg Station, where the queue for the replacement bus was so backed up that it was on the train platform. Super dangerous, all the exits were blocked and as is standard very vague and limited communication from Metro.
I ended up just taking the train back towards Hursty to go home, so did quite a few other people.
With the free public transport kicking of this week some people will be navigating PT for the first time. It's a real shame that this will be their experience, and I imagine a lot of people will be getting back into their cars and not giving PT a second try.

Good time to buy a BYD EV so you don’t have to take public transport.
Why is it a shame? They will join the time honoured tradition of being fucked by PT in this city. One of us, one of us.
Damn, thats a crush. Glad I decided to WFH today, that’s nuts.
Free Transport and so many lines have had disruptions. What a joke
Time for the people to fight for better services and more trains, trams and Buses (it will not solve all of the issues but it will be a start)
metro is an absolute joke.
I don’t like the Allan Govt, but in their defence, how could they have predicted this shift in usage out of nowhere across an entire network, driven by a war in the middle east they didn’t know would happen? If it helps us build a few more trains, as a just in case, to cover more services, that’s great, but of course it was gonna be chaos initially
Wait is PT free now or something
Yeah that’s been going on since 7:30 this morning according to some people I talked to at Ivanhoe waiting for replacement services. I got there at around 8:30 to see a large group of people at the small bus shelter and decided to get on a regular bus service that was going towards the place I needed to be.
The government needs to buy back PT and stop privatising essential services.
low stakes consipiracy, metro is sabotaging itself to avoid having to add more services down the track because more people might start to use trains
Let’s work in the office /s
WFH today for me
Yeah I waited in the queue for about 15 mins and moved 5 metres, then gave up and worked from home.
PTV app was still displaying “no disruptions” at 8:45, Transport Victoria website is useless and wasn’t even loading properly. New trains arriving at Heidelberg just dumping more people on the overcrowded platform.
Nothing to do with the extra people either, I’d say that the trains were less busy than normal. Just an equipment fault at Clifton Hill and general PTV incompetence.

What was the cause of this one?
Did I miss the cause of the line’s closure ?
This is the saddest easter bonnet parade I’ve seen today.
Sadly this is what can happen with free PT.
The govt takes the view that you’re not paying for it so they don’t have to provide a decent service and you should be grateful for any scraps they throw you
That’s crazy. Took a Belgrave line train in today and it was pretty spacious. Dreading the trip back though.
I guess it’s not all good out in Hursty.
I’ll let Bias know.
I’m on the Mernda line and it was impacted too – track fault at Clifton Hill. After waiting 15 minutes for a tram, decided to WFH. I’m doing my part 😂
Mernda too.
First Dandenong now Heidelberg
This country has to be a joke right? Right?
Happened at Fairfield station as well. Got there at 7:45 and the announcer had barely any news. Just that trains were cancelled and replacement buses are coming. I waited for 30 minutes and no bus came so I jumped on a regular bus to a tram line and went in that way
overcrowding is the exact reason backward bosses need to allow those who can to work from home, so those who can’t can get on public transport.
pretty simple really, but watch the fragile male bosses, who need a captive audience to perform their boss boy do nothing pantomime to, and who seem to hate any extra time with their families or have no friends, have an absolute meltdown about it.
Lol

Upcoming line work over 15-25 April = buses replacing trains for part of the journey on some lines (advice is to add 1hr to your trip to compensate)
Yet my workplace maintains it is reasonable during this period, for me to travel approx 4.5hrs round trip to attend the office, instead of WFH.
Europe is requiring wfh to commence, perhaps time for Australia to mandate for those that can, freeing up trains and trams fir those that can’t
Mernda line was rooted as well.
We need to pay Japan to figure out how to make a decent PT system lol
Yup line to Echuca’s mobbed right now
Represent hursty.
Mernda line as well! Was waiting for a replacement bus for 45 and the queue was massive. Then they said trains were resuming, so we went up, only to find out they’d been suspended again. Came back to an even bigger queue. This is so frustrating
Looks like free PT isn’t really a good idea.
it’s long been known that the hurstbridge line is a bus service with occasional train replacements. i switched to mernda because of the fact i couldn’t reliably catch the hursty whenever i needed
Don’t take pictures of people and post them online ffs.
Dick.
just Melbourne vibes
