Found some clips of the series on yt maybe 4-5 years ago. had no idea what it was (don’t speak Norwegian) but something about it was just… really charming? The chaos, talented people, the guys at the piano, how joyful it all felt…. I saved a bunch to a playlist and recently went back… only to find half the videos are gone. Copyright taken downs and such ig.
I figured I’d come to a source. Got a compilation clip with what looks like a lot of different artists across many episodes. I genuinely don’t know who most of them are or how famous they are in Norway…
A few questions I’m curious about:
– Who are the guest stars that a Norwegian would immediately recognize?
-Is there an official place to watch old/recent episodes outside Norway? (havent had much luck search looking around)
– What’s the vibe around the show? was it relevant in households? was/is it still popular? (yknow since some stuff died or stayed with the shift of interest to streaming platforms)
Greetings!
I'm from Chile, somehow fell down a rabbit hole with Beat for Beat years ago, and now I'm a bit obsessed about it. can you help me understand what I was watching?

VPN might help you watch through NRK [https://tv.nrk.no/serie/beat-for-beat](https://tv.nrk.no/serie/beat-for-beat)
It was a friday night show I think many families watched, on the state channel, so quite known. The guest are sometime famous, but mostly I think just people working in music.
Is the official videos on NRK geoblocked? if not, the whole library of episodes are found there afaik.
Beat for Beat was/is a staple Friday night show, for people all ages. Would watch this and get sent to bed after as a kid 😀
There’s also the same show in Sweden. It’s called Så ska det låta
– De er jo så flinke i Beat for Beat!?
– NEI! DE ER FANTASTISKE I BEAT FOR BEAT!
It’s basically a music quiz where they try to guess a song, instead of just guessing the title they have to sing the song. The team that sings the right song gets a point. The pianists are the same every season, and two singers on each team every episode, they are all Norwegian celebrities, mostly singers or actors/musical artists. Try VPN and nrk.no.

Show is on NRK (state funded channel), all people in Norway paying taxes is already paying for access so the site is available nationwide without login, but it is geoblocked outside if you don’t login.
Beat for Beat would at its peak consistently get A-listers, though slightly past their prime. Later seasons would often be filled with journeyman singers who weren’t exactly household names.
I don’t think you can watch it outside of Norway unless you get access to NRK Nett TV.
Beat For Beat was a part of something called Gullrekka, sort of the Norwegian equivalent of ABCs TGIF programming block. Together with Nytt På Nytt (Norwegian version of “Have I Got News For You”) and Først og Sist/Skavlan (Talkshow) they completely dominated the airways on Friday nights in the early 2000’s. That said, Beat For Beat was probably the least prestigious of the three. A solid family show, but not something people would discuss on Monday around the water-cooler.
Should not be geoblocked since it is listed in this portal for their overseas accessible content, so then you can get it all from the source here (no English subs, though – great excuse to start learning Norwegian):

Yearly seasons back to 1999
I have nothing to add except that the title is a pun. Originally it’s bit for bit, meaning piece by piece.
