Hijab ban in Azerbaijani schools

In Azerbaijan, there has been an open pressure on the hijab for several weeks now. Hijab students are expelled from schools. Hijab-wearing higher education teachers are fired. A choice is made in front of them: either give up the hijab, or give up their education and work. This is no longer an isolated event, but a systemic process. What does this mean? Education system or a mechanism of pressure on people? In the Republic of Azerbaijan, religion is separate from the state. All religious beliefs are equal before the law. Also, the state education system is secular in nature. In addition, parents cannot force their children to follow any religion. Persons under 18 years of age are considered children. It is forbidden to pressurize their religious choice, use violence, encourage them to wear any religious clothing. The school should be a safe place free from religious ideological influences. However, in addition to this, according to Article 48 of the Azerbaijani legislation, everyone has freedom of conscience and religion. The Constitution of Azerbaijan strictly prohibits religious discrimination and guarantees the right to education. Limiting rights based on religion is directly against the law. Everyone has the right to freely determine their attitude to religion. Forcefully removing the hijab violates Article 47 of the Azerbaijani legislation. Discrimination should not be allowed in the field of education regardless of identity and belief. This is a violation of the law on education. Actions that degrade the dignity of students (harassment or expulsion due to religious choice, hijab) are prohibited. This is not a violation of the student’s right to education. The Labor Code is violated if the rights of teachers are restricted and fired due to their religion. But is all this provided equally and fairly for everyone?
