Hi you all!

I was visiting Oslo this weekend and I found this sign next to the river, around the student complex that looks like tubes. I used Google lens to translate but still didn’t understand what exactly this thing is for?

    Drug addicts

It tells you to throw used syringes there, it warns you not to share your syringes with others and also where you can go to get new and clean syringes safely

It’s for disposing of needles and syringes used by drug users. It’s part of a harm reduction program. It also says where one can get sterile needles

  3. FrustratedPCBuild on

It says ‘thanks for throwing away used syringes here’, ‘always use new, sterile syringes. Avoid sharing with others’
‘New syringes can be found at Prindsen reception centre during opening hours’

  4. In addition to being a needle disposal, it informs on where to get clean and safe needles for free, and discourages sharing needles. Harm reduction measures

  5. To dispose of used needles for drug users. Used needles laying around on the ground can be dangerous, and reusing (or even sharing) needles can definitely be dangerous. So this is an effort to get users to dispose of them safely.

Usually, these are for needles for people who use them for drugs like heroine. When there’s a container for it, there must be a known problem.

  7. Thank you all for answers!

Now after your aswers I started reading about the harm reduction program for drugs. Interesting stuff.

You get free needles from a organisation about clean drug usage. Its a program to lower the amount of diseases in the group of people that are addicted. With free needles theres also many that aren’t the cleanest and just throws it around. So this box is for used needles. Usually a thing in Oslo or Bergen. Which has the largest groups of heroin addicts in Norway. Its not usually seen outside those areas.

  9. I dont get it, why do they tell them where to get new syringes? Theyre heroin addicts??

I love this. I wish we had more of these in America. It prevents both disease and offers help and cleaner and safer surroundings.

I just used google lens on the picture you posted and it says

-Thank you for throwing away used syringes here

-Always use new, sterile syringes. Avoid sharing with others.

-New syringes can be picked up at the Prindsen reception center during opening hours

….Like what is it you’re not getting?
