85 years ago today, Germany, Italy and Hungary attacked the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

I stayed for a while and was taken aback, considering that the day is running out and there is no fasting on the biggest Serbian Sabbath. The picture shows Belgrade leveled on April 6, 1941.

The war lasted for 11 days, and in it the Yugoslav airmen showed their best performance, bombing all the surrounding countries, including the cities of Tirana, Sofia, Arad, Vienna… Yugoslavia had 600 planes then, Germany attacked it with 3000 planes…

The front in the west fell apart very quickly due to the treachery of the Croats who deserted and refused to fight. Slavko Kvaternik already announced the NDH on April 10 in Zagreb. On the other hand, the front towards Bulgaria showed itself best, from which direction the German troops attacked, and General Milan Nedic offered them fierce resistance.

I recommend the drama series Vreme Zla, produced by Goran Susljik, which was shown on Nova S, because one whole episode is dedicated to the bombing of Belgrade on April 6, 1941, and the chaos and suffering of the people is shown phenomenally. Also, there is a conversation between Vukasin and Ivan Katic in which Ivan opposes the shooting of March 27, while Lausevic in Vukasin’s character says, paraphrasing, morality is a wonderful thing when one person possesses it, but when the whole nation has it, it is a miracle.

And indeed, at a time when only the British and Greeks were in conflict with Hitler’s Germany, Yugoslavia chose resistance to Nazism and German totalitarianism. Although the British agitated, over the radio day and night, sending money to, say, Dragoljub Jovanovic at 6,000 pounds a week, resistance would never have happened if the Serbian people did not already have a pronounced anti-German sentiment and sense of justice.

Hitler was beside himself after the shooting, and the unplanned attack on Yugoslavia contributed to the fact that the Germans were later caught in the winter in the Soviet Union, which defeated Hitler and Germany.

Hitler’s speeches and all the messages he sent before the attack marked only the Serbs as the culprits, while he promised the other nations in Yugoslavia liberation from the Great Serbian hegemony.
