On this day in 1848, the Slovenian flag was hoisted in Ljubljana for the first time in Slovenia, and it had already been erected two places before that in Vienna. It was hung in Ljubljana by Slovenian students led by Lovro Toman in response to the hanging of the German national flag "frankfurters" (black-red-gold) at Ljubljana Castle. On the evening of April 7, Toman and the others entered the Zlata zvezda inn, after which Toman told those present "Slovenians are not Germans and that shameful rag must disappear from the castle tower, where only the Slovenian flag is allowed to fly." The German flag was said to have been blown off the tower by a storm that night.

Grozno da kdo slavi *to* zastavo
“Slovenci nismo Nemci”
Domobranci in absolute shambles.
