  1. The only way to watch YouTube is with a browser and adblocker. Unfortunate but it’s the only way.

  2. “You may as well watch regular TV at that point.”

I think that’s kind of the point.  Either subscribe or get ads like tv.

If you just back out a few times then reload the video it will play without ads lol.

  4. It’s gotten unwatchable on android phones. I’ll get multiple short (for now) ads interrupting any long-ish video multiple times

I know there’s unofficial apps but it’s always a whack-a-mole with keeping it updated, isn’t it

I’ve removed YouTube from my tv entirely. The only way I’ll watch it is with uBlock and Firefox. Praise be.

My thinking is this. I am not paying for the service so adds are fine. YT has to make money somewhere. HOWEVER once the adds start making the service I am here for unuseable I will take action. I stopped using Facebook for this very reason.

  7. idk how heavy youtube users aren’t paying for premium. it’s such a better experience. For some reason it’s normal to pay for multiple streaming services that put out 2 good things a year, but the thought of paying for an ad-free youtube is like absurd. It’s well worth the cost if youtube is something you use a lot, especially if you have kids.

One important note – do NOT sign up through Apple. Go to the google site and do it manually. It’s $13.99 when billed directly and $18.99 when billed through apple.

  8. Playlet and Smart tube are both pretty common apps to use on TVs with no extra tech. my Roku store has Playlet. It’s got an ugly UI, and you can’t give likes to videos, but no ads is pretty great.

YouTube became massive by people escaping from TV because it was filled with ads and shit…

Now people will escape from YouTube because it’s filled with ads and shit.

Muricans will never learn. Their money obsession is turning them into the clowns of the world by repeating the same stupid mistakes, over and over again.

    Greed will be your doom.

I have just stopped using YouTube tbh. I hate the ads and my response is bye bye little Sebastian.

You cannot have a functioning economy when so few people at the top hold so much of the nation’s wealth. It’s not sustainable.

I’ve been using playlet on my roku. its an app that allows me to airplay YouTube videos without ads. its been really great!

As inflation continues to rise, corporations continue to rake in record profits. Corporate profits now account for a larger share of the American economy than ever before.

The problem isn’t government spending. It’s corporate greed.

  14. I wish Apple would give them some competition. I know at one point they had a no compete contract. I don’t think it’s still in effect. Anyway, with Apple adding video to podcasts now, it would be the perfect time to open up a full on competitor.

I have youtube premium and saw an add on the TV yesterday. I was so confused, I thought someone had hacked my shit.

I swear they are bent on just destroying anything that was good about the internet, I feel bad for the future wage slaves.

  17. I hate the new ads on mobile that even after you skip, there is a box on the video that you need to click the 3 dots and dismiss.

I use yt-dlp, and when I want to watch YouTube on my Apple TV, I use NordVPN and set my location to Andorra. No ads.

  19. If yt tries to show you an ad, exit out of the video & back in quickly. You may have to do it a couple times. But the ad goes away, or switches to a 5 second ad instead.

I’m a daily yt watcher on my TV. Trust me, it works.

They are skipable. Unlike tubi or Pluto, etc. Just gotta know the trick. Do it all the time. For ads in the middle of the video, it will start the video over. Just fast forward to where you left off. There are yellow ad markers on the progress bar, so you know exactly where to go to.

  20. I will not tolerate ads or watch YouTube (at all) without an ad blocker anymore.

Here’s how ridiculous YouTube ads are now: YouTube wants you to pay them so they don’t show you ads. If you do that, there are many shows that require their own paid subscriptions. If you do that, *they* still have their own sponsors to tell you about. So you could pay twice to see one show and *still* get a fucking ad.

Nope. Not doing it. Fuck off YouTube.

Hopefully, YouTube will suffer from the same fate as Doritos at $7 a bag.

  22. I’ve cut back on using YouTube a lot. It’s not just the amount of ads, it’s their style too. I get AI slop ads about tai chi constantly or just about super inappropriate issues. Its those random 90+ second ads too that just force to skip it.

I’m using YouTube on opera on my phone but used to watch some videos on the TV. I just can’t now. It’s way too much and again if it was real actual ads I wouldn’t mind as much, being forced to watch AI slop is just my cutting off point.

  23. I’ve noticed watching YouTube on TV is feeling more and more like watching cable. The ads are insane.

  24. If they were just keeping up with the time span that tv ads had that’d be one thing, but when I’m watching a 10 minute video and getting a 20 MINUTE “ad”, I’m not watching. Whole ass videos are not ads, and I’m tired of YouTube trying to make that happen. Commercials are one thing, forcing me to watch someone’s music video or podcast is another.

I live in a country which is not supported by YouTube for monetization, therefore no ads on any video.

I didn’t know how bad the ads were until I went on vacation in a country where YouTube serves ads. Holy molly, there was an ad before, during and after each video. It was simply unwatchable.

  26. YT Premium is the only streaming service worth while now. We watch hundreds of hours a month on there and I’m happy to never see ads.

  27. ultrasuperman1001 on

I was getting a series of 10-20 second unskippable ads for a total of 90 seconds, for a 5 minute video. Or for longer videos there would be a 90 second interruption every 5-7 minutes.

At this point I only use my tv to watch something if its long form and from a creator that I don’t mind waiting a bit for.

  28. HealthyProtection850 on

The people saying premium is worth paying for is missing the point. This shit is just going to get worse. Subscription prices are going to increase, more ad breaks, etc.

  29. Restivethought on

I heard if you have a Shield that there is a SMART way to watch without ads on youTUBE

  30. YouTube is my primary form of content consumption, but when I watch it on my Apple TV, it’s pretty much unusable: if there is a video I want to rewatch from the beginning and it’s queued up as half way through the video, when I click on it, I get an ad. Once the ad is over, I then have to scroll back to the beginning, and hit play to get slapped with another ad. It seems that after about 3-5 minutes, I get yet another ad. At this point, it’s made me want to get premium, but I can’t stand paying for a service just to get rid of ads on something that was free. Most YouTube creators make peanuts anyways in comparison to all the ads we get from them making brand deals that are baked into the video by the creators themselves. The only way people make money of the views is if they get a truly significant number it seems, but maybe I’m way off base

  31. The advertisement industry is running amok! Arseholes are everywhere on all the streaming platforms too! Only way out is to pay more for the same, then adverts are sneaking in there too somehow. ARGH!

The endless deluge of advertising on television is why I no longer have a cable tv subscription. And for a while streaming online solved that. But now advertising has made inroads there too.

Makes one want to wage direct war against the advertisement industry itself.

Meh, I’ve just got to put up with this shite for another 30 years then none of it will matter anymore. I’ll be stardust awaiting the heat death of the universe.

I guess until then, I’ll have to build a specialized firewall appliance that scrubs adverts from my internal network as much as humanly possible. Pi-hole is an example of this.

If I was a politician, I’d work on passing legislation restricting the invasive in your face advertisement industry in multiple ways short of nuking them from existence.
