This almost made me weep. Since I was a kid, I’ve been enamoured with the Mojave desert and the surrounding area, the Great Plains. “The West”, if you will. But especially Monument Valley. Monument Valley was the first place I can remember thinking “one day I will go there on my own”, before I even knew where it was or what it was called. I just remember seeing a picture of it and knowing I wanted to be there. Travel and exploration have always been a thing for me.
And then it never happened. Had kids a little sooner than I expected and then life and the world got very very expensive after covid. I’ve gotten to see a lot of cool places. Most of New England. Several National Parks, Badlands and the Grand Tetons, I actually lived in Yellowstone for a couple seasons. The whole Olympic Peninsula. The Whole East Coast. Even got to spend a day in Canada. But I never made it to the desert. And for some reason I fear I never will. But it calls to me in a way no other place does. And I pray one day I can see it. But until then, I see videos like this and it moves my heart. I hope I get to be there one day.
