  2. we’re gonna attack turkey because Likud, or the MIC, or the evangelicals, or Peter Thiel want us to

Netanyahu already said ErdoÄŸan (Türkiye) is next, so that’s the only reason for US to leave NATO for some period of time

  4. Yourstruly75 on

I even think that, ideally, the EU should open up a membership path for any country in the world. “As long as you adhere to these principles and achieve this level of development…”

    But hey, I’m a dreamer

  5. What’s the significance of Luxembourg joining the EU when the context here is probably related to the military strength ?

  6. Interesting, he is making this call after yesterday Erdogan’s coalition partner talked to a Russian newspaper and forcing Erdogan to strengthen cooperation with Russia and China

  7. Never before did I see the doggy style inherent in Europe. Now I will never unsee.

The israeli apartheid wants to fight Türkiye and send it into chaos like it has done with every other neighboring country so it can expand into it. That’s the goal for this apartheid. America likes vassals so it doesn’t want civil war, but its rotting appendage israel doesn’t like that, it likes countries that it hates to be in total chaos or totally destroyed so it can build colonies inside of it. Do not think that the greater israel idea is just a  netenyahu thing, it’s a whole israel thing.

This is stupid on several levels. Ignoring the fact that head of non member state is telling EU what in needs to do, EU is not primarily military thing. It’s an economic and political association bringing together countries that share geographical space but have different military positions.

Let’s say for a moment this happens and EU assumes NATO’s military role. What happens to Austria? It’s neutral and EU member. Cyprus is not NATO member either. And let’s talk about how different positions will play out. Let’s say Israel decides threats are not enough and starts murdering Italian peacekeepers in Lebanon. Italy calls on EU to act. Will Germany stop sucking Israel’s cock long enough to say “we are strongly against doing anything and Italy needs to apologise to Israel for having to spend bullets” or will they simply do thumbs-down gesture so they can keep sucking?

If Us leaves NATO then other states should deal with it and adapt NATO to it, not create something new out of fabric that doesn’t work.

  10. The EU needs to reform how the Council’s veto power works before we can expand. It’s already near impossible to take any decisions with 27 members who all have veto power. Expanding before reforming would result in total political paralyzation.

Can’t find the source from Independent UK but in [The Rest is Politics](https://youtu.be/-uCjUbVu5aY) and their interview with Zelenskyy, he was a bit more nuanced and said that it could be as part of a closer integration which doesn’t necessarily have to be a EU membership but maybe something like a close partnership.

  12. The U.K. leaving the European Union is still one of the dumbest things it’s ever done and with the U.S. being aggressive about trade they’re even more isolated.

At the same time the EU system is severely broken as we’ve seen Hungary prove that a single rogue nation in the group can hold it to ransom and there’s nothing in the rules to account for it. Trade deals are decades long endeavours because every member needs to agree with parliament votes and, in some cases, every region of certain countries. But beyond all that, it’s not a defence or military collective so membership doesn’t make the parties stronger against invasion.

If a country can meet the requirement and are willing they will seriously be considered.

The day Turkey gets accepted into the EU is the day Europe dies. Half of these countries aren’t even interested in accession anyways

  15. How does adding more to an entity that is incapable of defining a will help?

It was the UKs strategy to push for additions, in particular Turkey, to assure continental ineffectiveness.

The more logical call would be for reform and dismissal of fringe countries.

  16. No. What we need is qualified majority before we expand even by an dot. Also no Turkey.

  17. Longjumping-Site-564 on

Turkey wont be allowed until it releases its control of northern Cyprus.

    Its a significant stopping block.

  18. Funny-Salamander4691 on

Formal withdrawal from NATO would need approval from the US congress which is very unlikely, and even more so after the mid-term elections in November.

A more likely option wouldl be the closure of US bases throughout Europe, via Executive order.

    Death by a thousand cuts?

  19. 1 it’s not up to Zelensky

2 Ukraine should not be allowed in for a multitude of reasons

3 the EU does not “expand into countries”, countries decide themselves of they join or not

4 NATO should be dismantled regardless of what the EU does

    5 Fuck Trump

  20. Aggressive-Kitchen18 on

Why the fuck does it matter what Zelensky says. Hes treated like the pope, on god.

  21. No-Obligation-8560 on

The Ukrainians have genuine trouble understanding the EU. Erdogan is even worse than Viktor Orban, and we’d have him in charge of the largest, most popolous, and arguably most militarily powerful country in the union. Nothing would get done and it would start to break apart. Turkey has a lot of work to do on their institutions and government before they are ready, and so does Ukraine.

  22. Inevitable-Push-8061 on

The EU should dream big and finally accept Turkey. Imagine the USA without Texas. That is how the current EU feels without Turkey and Turkey would be the Texas of the European Union.

  23. CasualStockbroker on

Luxembourg is already in the EU. Also, Turkey attempting to join the EU might cause some friction with Greece and Cyprus.

  24. NATO would be the common defense pact even if the US left it. EU is way more than that.

  25. Potential-Mobile-567 on

Aren’t EU an NATO different entities altogether?? US leaving NATO wouldnt have any effect on EU as an Organisation right?

    Am I missing something?
