Since 1 January, all electricity consumers have been required to subsidise the steel industry. For every kilowatt-hour consumed, households also pay a compulsory levy to a company owned by billionaire Martin Haefner.

Why not nationalize the Steel industry then? We can also reap in the dividends.

Or is this socialism for the rich only?

  2. And how many households are subsidized by profits of having a functioning industry?

I read the article. It corresponds to about 2 CHF per person per year. Limited to two years. It is only for companies that record losses and these companies are obliged not to pay any bonuses and avoid layoffs.

It seems to me the article tries to stir some unnecessary shit. Shame.

They truly are creative to slap taxes on literally anything that doesn’t require a public vote

see, that’s the part I do not understand

why do civilians need to pay for the usage of companies, which get cheaper! rates when they use more

and if we’re already financing them, why do we not get a dividend payment then?

A tale as old as time. First implement policies to make an industry die, then save it by subsidizing it.

Now think about that the same is happening for our beloved farmers but in the hundreds to thousands a year per person. And as a thank you, we get to eat shitty watery tomatoes in summer instead of tasty italian ones! Same for meat, 90/kg or more for steak when the same costs 30€ right across the border.

So basically we are paying their salaries to maintain a dying industry in Switzerland. Within 4 years all of them will be laid off and the companies will vanish anyway. This is just delaying the inevitable to soften the impact on the job market and bad publicity. If it’s really strategic to maintain these companies, let the government own them, then at least it’s public property.

Glad we support People in need 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

  10. Stay at home and write one or two angry comments on reddit/x/facebook. It’s amazing to look how Swiss people comply with decisions made by highly corrupt government and domestic “oligarchs”.

People want jobs and industry in Switzerland to succeed but only if someone else (by magic) pays for it.

Outsourcing all steel production to other countries is not in national interest specially when we live in a world with so many predatory nations.

With higher salaries for people in CH,and also high energy cost, there is not other alternate to subsidies. Either people pay this via income tax or indirect subsidies.

I am really surprised that there seems to be a view in Switzerland that higher salaries compared to neighbour countries is great but higher costs is not appreciated. When everyone know one of the reason for higher industrial cost is the higher wages

  12. Nationalize those industries. If they can’t survive without the State, let them die and then nationalize.
