Artemis II and Project Hail Mary got me super excited for spaceflight again, so after hitting 1000 hours in Kerbal Space Program, I drew the space shuttle and some past/current space stations (and Orion!) to commemorate what humanity can do when we work together to reach the stars! Here's to the International Day of Human Spaceflight!

    My first thought looking at the picture was that the shuttle name and tank color were wrong for a shuttle launched on 12 April.

    Looking at a “Today in space history” page, I realized that there have been three crewed orbital launches on 12 April:

    * 1961 – Yuri Gagarin aboard Vostok 1,
    * 1981 – Space Shuttle Columbia’s first flight, First space shuttle mission (STS-1).
    * 1985 – Space Shuttle Dicovery’s fourth flight. Sixteenth space shuttle mission (STS 51-D).

  3. Beautiful art. I love the out of frame fume spirals and the colorfulnlness of it all. Thanks for sharing!

  4. It’s a cute drawing/art, and I like the creative expression, but the subject — NASA’s largest folly. Not a great one. Picking the vehicle responsible for the most human spaceflight deaths due to poor design and operations wouldn’t be my choice.

    Still, it seems that people are groomed to celebrate Shuttle, and I don’t know why.

  5. This is incredible! I love the detail you put into the shuttle and the exhaust clouds.
