Found someone had done this with the car once in a parking lot. After walking around and finding nobody, I made sure the car was locked, left a note with my phone number on the windshield, and handed keys in to a nearby business open all day.
Owner rang me later to say they got their keys back fine, they were on their way to an interview and running late. 😊

Fortunately they’re only council keys. Good thing people don’t steal copper, or that these cabinets aren’t covering things people shouldn’t touch.

Long time ago, I found a dog collar tag and the address was just nearby so I walked to it and dropped it in their mailbox.
Thinking of it now, if the dog was also missing, that would be a pretty creepy thing to find in your mailbox. 😬

The info on the key tags or the phone number on the box should help you find where they need to go. Hopefully you get a cake for your efforts.

Lock it up and call the number on the box
Did you take them to return to council?
