Sarajlija Kemal Curić became the new head of design at McLaren

McLaren is preparing to enter a new era, and part of that preparation is the hiring of a new chief designer. That role fell to Sarajevo’s Kemal Curić, who brings decades of rich experience to Woking.

Curić was born in Sarajevo, BiH, graduated in industrial design and master’s in transportation design. He started his career at Ford of Europe in 2003 and worked on models such as Fiesta, Mondeo and Kuga.

He then left Europe to work at Ford’s global headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan and was involved in a number of high-profile projects, including the 2015 Mustang. He was also the manager of exterior design for the Lincoln Continental, as well as the lead designer for the Aviator and Corsair.

Then, in 2019, Curić was appointed head of design at Lincoln. This included him overseeing China’s Zephyr sedan and Nautilus crossover, as well as the iconic Navigator. Most recently, he served as global design director for high-performance vehicles at Ford.

The long-term mandate at Ford is now over, so Curić will "be responsible for shaping the design vision and creative direction of the McLaren Automotive portfolio". As a result, they will oversee exterior and interior design, colors, materials and finishes. McLaren said that the famous designer will "work closely with the engineering and product strategy teams to ensure the company continues to define the highest standards in lightweight, high-performance and emotionally engaging luxury cars".
