Probably the wrong flair. I was checking out a plane flying over and having a sticky-beak at other flights when I noticed this, flying south of us. Weird. Why come from Katherine when there is a RAF base near Bairnsdale?

Because the MQ-4 fleet is based at Tindal. All of the infrastructure to support it is there, and isn’t at Bairnsdale.

  2. There is defence force training operations in the Bass Strait until early May I believe. Airforce and Navy

  3. Pretty standard search/loiter pattern. Don’t quote me on this but I think it’s even a preset in some newer autopilots.

Triton is an UAV, so makes even more sense.

  4. Maybe it’s for SAR? (Search and rescue) Perhaps checking r/flightradar24 or r/aviation would be beneficial – I’d bet there’s many bright minds into aviation over there.

  5. Initially thought it might have been a training exercise, but that’s a long way to go for training

You could benefit from some ad blocking DNS. 🙂 It makes apps significantly more pleasant. Check out NextDNS and AdGuard DNS.
