Also inhabitable & thus, doesn’t get to have maritime claims according to UN.
Though it’s known that greece is artifically trying to populate this islands (by showing military as civilians) to claim more EEZ.

“according to Türkiye” ?
Who says otherwise?

Most of the islands in the south were italian until after ww2 and they were cede to greece. So shouldn‘t it be clear for those at least?

It seems like Turkey’s claim is that while the treaties gave Greece literally every single mildly important island, the less important islands weren’t mentioned and therefore belong to Turkey.
EvilInGood on
As a Turk, I see no point in this dispute. Those islands are Greek. It seems like the treaty has not made it clear by mentioning only bigger or important islands but that doesn’t change the reality for the smaller ones.

That’s wrong. Turkey doesn’t have that kind of claims for “152” islands. You mixed up all the stuff

It literally says “sovereignty unclear” in Turkish, not that Turks claim those islets. Rather, they were not explicitly mentioned in international treaties, especially in the case of some of the “Italian” islets ceded to Greece after World War II. Afaik, some of them were never explicitly or officially given to Italy by the Ottomans in international treaties to begin with.

Turkey is the direct inheritor of the Ottoman Empire, therefore any territory that is not named in the treaties still belong to them.

Funny, because Anatolia was Greek for a thousand+ years before the Turks migrated and invaded

The 1923 Treaty of Lausanne (article 12) says that all islands of Eastern Mediterranean belong to Greece, with the exception of Imbros, Tenedos, and the Rabbit Islands. It also says that islands within three miles of the Asian coast (unless otherwise specified in the treaty) stayed under Turkish control.
So everything further than 3 miles does not belong to Turkey.

The Treaty of Lausanne (July 24, 1923) defined the Greek-Turkish borders,
Dodecanese: Article 15,c1. **Turkey renounces in favor of Italy all titles and rights to the following islands: Astypalaia, Rhodes, Chalki, Karpathos, Kasos, Tilos, Nisyros, Kalymnos, Leros, Patmos, Lipsi, Symi and Kos, which are now occupied by Italy and the islets dependent on them, as well as the island of Kastellorizo.**
East Aegean Islands and islets. Article 12 …….. **”The islands, which lie within three miles of the Asian coast, remain under Turkish sovereignty.”**
Any one with few brain cells and minimum IQ, can understand that more of 2000 islands and islets cant be mentioned and written in detail one by one in a treaty.
Because Turkey in past has violated the treaty with the pogrom and deportation of the Greek population of Constantinople,Imbros and Tenedos…they think that they do again.
**If someone doesn’t respect the signature they put in, they also put in their own words as a winners…then they are unworthy as a person or as a society or as a nation.**

Turkey has some wild claims. Im sure theres arguments for each but going by that mentality Greece could just drop a map of Turkey and it not having been ceeded by Macedon or international treaties. If anything Greece vs Turkey has some top tier mud slinging which often reminds me of their balkan neighbors lol.

It might sound like spam, but let me add this here too: I think some people are confused.
The Treaty of Lausanne lists all the islands that were ceded, but these islands are not included in it, nor are the islands give Italy. That’s why the 1947 Paris Agreement was made. They are not included there either. What you’re saying contradicts international law.
You need to read the entire agreement, not just a part of it.
