Why do cops have rifles? Thats more of a US police warfare than just police visibility and presence?

Edit: OK stuff in general isn’t as nice as id like to believe 🤷‍♀️ and im being too hopeful and naive

  3. Been to the MCG three times this year and seen them each time. Makes me so uncomfortable.

Manufactured consent. The state wants us to get used to cops with rifles on the streets

Yeah, two white men with big guns is certainly a stomach turning sight.

  6. Sorry for my ignorance why is it whenever I see cops or army men their barrels meet on the inside. I feel like I’ve hardly ever seen both guns slung across the same shoulder

120 comments and not one has mentioned why we now need this at large scale events, incredible

  8. As long as they don’t actually shoot at people, I don’t care what they carry. Could walk around with a bazooka for all I care.

I worry far more about them being properly trained in de-escalation and the judicial use of force.

  9. I was there a few weeks ago, and pretty sure it was the same 2 guys – around the gate 6 area?

I asked them if they are allowed to use the rifles against smokers who are too lazy to walk 10 steps to the grass – apparently not.

Well Benbrinka just got full release a couple of months ago and “blow up MCG” is still on his to do list.

  11. Unfortunately with everything going on globally the threat level is high, and if someone with bad intentions wants a high density area to attack, you cant get higher than a footy game. I personally would rather have the police ready to deal with a dangerous situation, rather than complain about them not being prepared if something bad happens

It’s not to suppress the public, they are looking down, not engaging, not scanning, purposefully being as innocuous as you can be with a long weapon in public.

    It’s to take down shooters

I’m not sure we need that, but apparently police feel differently

Fucking hell the law can’t win, a Bondi-style standoff with active shooters with hunting rifles and the gen pop are all “Where were the cops who could take care of them”, put a few long arms in the crowd and it’s all pearl-clutching “Why has it come to this, not the Australia I know” shriek 🙄
