First one looks a lot safer. Someone steps out from behind that bush or car reverses in to your path unexpectedly and you won’t have a problem. Second one same scenario someone probably going to hospital.

  2. Ride on the road then if you want to go fast. Footpath is for pedestrians to be able to walk safely not dodge fast traffic from vehicles

instead of investing in infrastructure for bikes like separated paths they just nerf them to near-pointless. dumb as fuck.

Honestly, one of the reasons I go fast (especially down hill) is likely the same reason motorbike riders send it. It’s fun; and for those few seconds (or minutes), nothing else matters. It’s just you and whatever is threatening to splatter you 😬

It’s obvious that the state government just doesn’t like cyclists and wants to discourage them from cycling altogether, as is sadly common among right-wing populists.

Someone needs to send the Government collectively to day one week one physics where they teach you that a bike is more stable moving at speed due to the gyroscope effect.

If people actually follow this stupid law I would expect the amount of cyclist injury’s to dramatically increase due to them no longer operating a stable platform, especially amongst the elderly or those use who bikes as a mobility device and are not particularly elite athletes

  7. The law is that pedestrians have right of way on footpaths. If you would like to go fast there is a road there. Yep, it sucks, realistically the government need to be implementing bike lanes on roads. In NSW bikes are banned on paths all together for adults, surprised if QLD doesn’t do the same.

  8. You’re gonna have to suffer on this one. Queenslanders only learn when they get burnt by the stove and this looks like one of those times.

  9. If the new rules were
    1) must wear hi-vis
    2) must slow down and yield to pedestrians
    3) must ring bell to notify pedestrians before passing
    4) max 12km/h around school zones and dedicated zones

It would be great, but what’s currently proposed is transparently anti active transport and ableist.

What’s that big wide black shiny thing next to the path? If only there was a place where you can legally go fast on an electric motorbike…

    What a dumb fucking video.

Yup it’s where the stupidity of the laws begin. Let’s put speed limits on bikes. Yet a normal bike with pedals and no Speedo will easily do more than said speed limit.

The only way that the current situation will change is by changing the legislation… however, no government (from either side politics) will repeal laws which could be construed as reducing “public safety”.

I think we’re stuck with it.
