I bet Hungarian state media and relevant personalities really regret making an entire segment about Magyar’s penis now

This is good news. Orban’s ruling party had a very strong editorial influence over state media. From 2010 onward Hungary dropped from #20 to #85 in media freedom, and Orban had stacked it with his lackeys. A democratic Hungary without free press was never possible.

The other EU states need to do everything reasonable now to ensure this new government has the chance to be really successful. Because I guarantee that Russia and the previous system will be trying to undermine it and regain power.

I know people here are hyped up about Orban getting the boot, which is great, but I don’t think it’s a good thing for a democratic leader to start shutting down media. Even if said media is lying, there should be impartial authorities that manage that.
This is something I would expect Trump or Putin to say, not a sane leader.

Suppression of free speech. Why not have a debate, prove how they are spreading misinformation.
But ‘just shut it down,’ is not good. And yet you clap.

And it really just comes down to what he replaces it with. Is he going to replace it with the kind of neutral state media that countries like Denmark and Sweden have? Or is he going to just turn it into a similar kind to what he’s replacing, but make it pro-Tisza?
Only time will tell.

I do not want to bring bad news, but you should observe what has happened in Poland.
Tusk promised to fix national media. In the end, we have the same propaganda tubez but with another bias.
I really hope that Magyar will do it right way.

Is he shutting it down completely or adding actual quality control to it/reforming it?
State/public broadcasters can be quite good if they aren’t a tool for the party in charge.
Wait I actually read the article, hes replacing it with a *real* public broadcaster, good news for democracy in Hungary.

Fox News, Newsmax, Sinclair, etc. need to be forceably taken over by the next Democratic administration, nationalized, everyone fired, investigated for criminal activity, and turned into an independent national broadcaster

Now it is time for EU to improve some rules like need for complete unanimity. One country should not be that mighty to veto-block a whole continent.

I’m still skeptical, but I have to admit, he’s off to a good start. Perhaps even more so than Orban’s media, I hope he’ll be able to get rid of the Orban judges.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the Tisza parliamentarians are going to behave.
On the one hand they’re going to have to support the new PM To make changes even if they have some doubts.
On the other hand they will need to keep the government from overreaching. Perhaps even abandon the PM if he goes too far or builds his own empire.
On the third hand, they can’t let Tisza disintegrate and cause chaos, as that would only strengthen the Orbanists.
In short, they’re going to have to walk a tight rope balancing act. I wish them strength and clarity of vision.

Most of their official streaming starts with few minutes of lovely “Coming soon” page showing “Starting if a new era” and a lovely traditional Hungarian song played in background: Tavaszi szel…
Also at the end of broadcast, similar closing page with wording of : “Thank you Hungary”
As an American. . .Jesus, I’ve seen what you’ve done for other people and I want that for me. /meme

This was incredible live footage. I sincerely hope he proves to be credible and trustworthy, they all campaign in purity but the taste of power eventually seems to corrupt them all…by all means disband this rag but will it’s replacement be reasonably independent (no such thing as a truly unbiased independent media outlet )….
