  1. As much as I think most of the reaction to any Doug Ford news are a mixture of theatrics and hyperbolics, old Doug’s gonna have a tough time justifying this one.

  2. AprilsMostAmazing on

Doug Ford does not need a private jet. This is an attempt by him to live a 1%er lifestyle on the taxpayer dime. Ford literally got a gravy jet

  3. Ford’s arrogance and entitlement is starting to show between this announcement and his Mickey Mouse-unbeatable comment the other day.

I’m so mad, I can’t even express myself. My health is going down the toilet, my family doesn’t have a doctor. I’m so sick of this. Schools understaffed. I’m so mad.

  5. The problem with Ford using taxpayer money to buy a plane for the Premier’s use is that it cuts into his brand and his brother’s coattails he came in on, being extremely critical of any politician spending money on anything that looks like a perk. Rob Ford used to do videos of himself cutting up his free memberships he got as a councillor. Now, after eight years in office and his third majority Doug’s becoming very comfortable to the point where he’s buying a plane to ride around in.

I remember in opposition when the PC Party used to complain bitterly about how Ontario was the most indebted sub sovereign jurisdiction in North America. Now that debt is $100 billion higher than when the Liberals were in office and Ford is buying a plane.

Do our Premiers need private jets? It has to be cheaper to get a charter flight for the few times the Premier needs to travel out of the province each year. Looks like a very self-indulgent purchase. It shouldn’t be too hard for opposition parties to take advantage of this, but they haven’t shown any ability to take advantage of a generally corrupt and inactive government, so I have my doubts.

For a man who made his political career drifting off his brother’s everyman populism and calling every politician to his left guilty of riding the “gravy train” on the taxpayer’s dime, he sure is revealing himself to be a massive hypocrite.

  8. isnt this this same party that ran ads clutching their pearls because Bonnie Crombie had…..OH GOOD HEAVENS….a MASERATI? LOL fucking hypocrites. and it’s not even like she used public funds to buy it.

aaand i see i’m already getting downvoted by the conservative trolls in this sub….lol

    Gravy…jet?

Ford can already fly business class to wherever he needs to that justifies a plane, there’s no reason he needs a private jet of all things, especially when so many other things in Ontario desperately need the funds.

OK, so now in addition to the $29m cost for the plane, the province is now also on the hook for the cost of the pilot, the cost of the crew, any maintenance and fuel, and storage.

What does this allow him to do that he could not already do with commercial flights and/or his custom RV that he bought in his first term?

There’s nothing wrong with a premier having a private jet. This sub is just upset becuase they hate Ford. Every time an article comes out discussing how much Carney spent on something, it’s heavily downvoted and people say its justified. But for Ford, he’s evil for spending any public money.

Ford does travel a lot for a premier and $30 million dollars isn’t that much. Also, keep in mind, that the jet isn’t just for Ford. It’ll stick around for decades and future premiers can use it too. I like the idea of the premier of the biggest and economically most important province in Canada having a private jet to allow for easier travelling.

If he had a plan or outlined why it’s an investment I might be able to look the other way.

But no this is just him being a greedy mess. Wish we could codify anti corruption laws a bit better.

I don’t see how he travels enough to locations that require a private jet. He already lives in Toronto, which is an aviation hub. Most places he would need to go, he can go to directly from Toronto. Pearson flies to Winnipeg, Thunder Bag, Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, and Timmins. Billy Bishop adds North Bay. Furthermore, he seems to spend a lot of time ignoring everywhere outside of the GTA.

  14. Photo is misleading.

It shows a bombardier global jet which is bigger and more expensive than the challenger.

Also not a Doug fan and not sure why tax payers need to pay for this.

  15. Ever since he started to move on restrictions to the FOI it seems he free to spend any way he wants with impunity.

  16. Ontario has had a plane going back decades. The former plane (not a jet, turboprop I believe) is/was extremely old and is almost certainly out of service now. Last I knew about it they’d shifted it from transporting the Premier and government delegates around to flying people and supplies up north to fight wildfires. It was in pretty bad shape, that said.

Ontario is not a small jurisdiction, it’s a geographically large province and there’s official business all over the place that can’t always be subject to commercial flight schedules. There had been talks of getting a new plane for quite a while now, although I agree the concerns around timing make sense.

  17. Ford really living that republican lifestyle he is so found of. What an insane thing to do. Can’t wait till he isn’t in power and all his dumb actions come to light.

    Much like his jail problems.

  18. King-in-Council on

When the Elliot Lake parkIng garage collapsed on the mall crushing people inside the forensic structural / rescue team used the provincial plane to get there fast.

Remember it takes at least *2 days* to drive across Ontario.

I am not sure I have ever had a kind word for Doug Ford, but I would withhold judgment. Don’t judge business aircraft by their sales brochures, most will never be equipped so lavishly. My former employer had a Challenger that was just a stubby CRJ inside.

  21. That plane is already permanently grounded. The story is an attempt to hide the truth of his reality. He is stuck inside his Etobicoke home, shaking like a leaf. While 150 formerly missing homeless people camp out all over his property. The next time Doug Ford and his cronies decide it’s in their power to shed people…Queens Park will become a mausoleum.

  22. I know I shouldn’t laugh but when the hypocrisy is this stark, how can you not?

The good news is that this is a deal breaker for many of his voters and he will be taking a massive hit, politically.

    Maybe that’s the funny part.
