  1. I am in BC , every one I know supports it , it’s a start. Let’s get this going – one day it might help set up Cascadia route and one for Edmonton to Calgary

  2. Having ridden it in Japan and Europe, I think high speed rail is awesome and I’d love to see it in Canada. I am sceptical about whether we will actually see benefits in line with the cost, and doubly sceptical about this project actually being delivered within the current budget.

Once again PP finds himself on the wrong side of public opinion and of history. Even Morocco has high speed rail. *Morocco*. Let that sink in!!!

Canadians are desperate for better transit across the entire country. Yes, it’s a huge country but the BS about scale is so overdone when the majority of our population lives in fairly tight areas. Better transit and infrastructure (bike lanes, streetcars/trams, etc) in Vancouver and the Windsor-Toronto-Montreal corridor would alleviate SO much traffic, pollution, and time. Yes, it’ll cost billions but it’ll bring in far more via investment and ease of movement.

It’s time for Canada to start trying things, to start doing things, to see if it makes other things start happening as well. The project has been talked about for a long time and has popular support.

Of course it’s going to go over budget, but virtually every large project in every country across the world, including in efficiency darlings Germany and Japan, goes over budget. Let’s not beat ourselves up about such things in advance.

    Let’s go!

  6. Would a large majority be willing to pay for it out of their own pockets through fares that reflect the full cost of the project? That is the ultimate test of whether this is a good idea.

This is going to cost $2,000 per person, which strikes me as an absolutely insane price. That is before accounting for any budget overruns.
