After years of Australian politicians and defence personnel adding extras to off the shelf ships that go over budget and overtime by years, it’s good to see we are buying a decent frigate off the shelf which will be delivered quickly compared to the Hunter class that is still years away.

Very encouraging news. I saw the Mogami in Sydney Harbour during the International Fleet Review. Very impressive looking vessel.
Also shaves off a lot of time waiting for the Hunter Class frigates too.

Making the best of a bad situation bequeathed to us by the systemic failures of previous Australian governments.
Still, this handbrake turn on the frigate program has nothing on the one we’re going to see a few years from now when both Collins LOTE and Virginia subs faceplant and we’re forced to throw money at whomever can deliver a new batch of conventional submarines fastest. My money is that the Japanese will have the inside track on that as well.

Between this, the Virginias and the Hunters, we will actually have a really capable navy. All we’re missing are carriers.

I’m looking to rejoin the navy. Do we have a dad’s Navy that throws VB tinnies at the enemy?

How about a $7 billion dollar fast train deal instead of useless warships which will never be used?

Can we get a discount for selling our gas so cheaply to Japan and buying it back at market price?

look, this whole Trump disaster if we manage to survive it will prove to be a blessing in disguise for many nations including Australia by forcing us to examine and change our allies and trading partners…
being closer to Asia was always better than tying ourselves to some religious extremist nation who let’s be serious only saw our country as a testing field to calibrate their nuclear weapons….

Is $7 billion enough for a warship?
