And nothing would be strange if the man was not a member of SKOJ and KPJ.

In the new kingdom there is no more Sperrstunde, but there is a gendarmerie ‘curfew’. On two occasions; during the king’s visit to Makarska in 1929, and after the assassination in Marseille in 1934, due to the reactions of the unwilling communists and Franks, ‘curfew hours’ were declared. Overnight, the unfit are taken on a ‘short holiday’ at the expense of the state to Makarska pržun. Vid Mihaljević, a communist champion, but also a passionate opponent of Karađorđević, is especially ‘in the teeth’. An article in the ‘Jadranski dnevnik’, in 1935 on the occasion of the centenary of the Croatian national anthem, testifies to his ardent Croatism: ‘In the evening, an academy was organized in the premises of the former Paromlin with a speech by student Vid Mihaljević on Croatian national consciousness. Such Croatian national enthusiasm as that of that young man can rarely be experienced. He received frenetic applause!’

On the night after the assassination of the king, disobeying the rules of movement, the police file on Mihaljević notes: ‘After the assassination of the peaceful king, the provocateur Mihaljević made a very rude comment about the resting place on Oplenac, saying that the contents of the bowels should be emptied there! He also mocked the last words of the martyred king ‘Protect Yugoslavia for me!’, twisting them in an indecent way. Such outrageous insolence was heard by several witnesses present.’

On the eve of the fascist attack on Yugoslavia on April 6, 1941, Mihaljević was arrested along with many communists. The ruling HSS in Banovina Hrvatska, headed by Ban Šubašić, carefully guarded these unfortunates in Maček’s Keretinac and handed them over to the Ustasha regime of Ante Pavelić.

The Ustashas immediately, already on April 11, 1941, near Jadovno Cave, not far from Gospić, established a concentration camp where they transported Serbs, Gypsies, Jews and anti-fascists of other nationalities – gradually killing them and throwing them into Jadovno Cave. In the time of about half a year, about 30,000 people were killed there!

NOTE: I am not posting this text and post for the purpose of promoting, advocating or glorifying any form of communist rule. I have already written that no normal person can advocate communism or any form of it in the 21st century. I put it as an interesting fact from history that deviates from some classic beliefs and attitudes that we all have.
