–> 190 Japanese men and Korean women married in 2026
1000 Japanese women and Korean men married in 2006
–> 1483 Japanese women and Korean men married in 2026
Why more Japanese women and Korean men:
"better diplomatic relationship between Japan and Korea."
"Increase of populairty of Korean pop culture in Japan."
"Compared to Korean women, Japanese women have lower financial standard, so Korean men feel easier to start a marriage life with Japanese women."

Shocker
> Compared to Korean women, Japanese women have lower financial standard
What now ? XD
Marrying Japanese men doesn’t provide the economic benefit it used to.
It’s so rare to come across international couples here in kyushu. I think I’ve not met more than a dozen in twenty years.
>Compared to Korean women, Japanese women have lower financial standard, so Korean men feel easier to start a marriage life with Japanese women
Yeah I also met a few Korean guys like that as a white woman. Telling me straight in my face that they want me because (they’ve read on 디시 and 일배 that) women from my country are supposedly cheaper and easier to handle than a fellow countrywoman.
Small part/reason. It is because kpop and kdrama….some young japanese girls are big fans of kpop and drama.
First it’s in Korea, maybe there are less Japanese living in Korea, in the 2000, Korean companies were hiring Japanese staff specially in the semi conductor industry.
Post is misleading and you can have the number telling whatever story.
There should be a submission statement since no one in this thread has seemingly read the article thus far.
*”Regarding the reasons for the surge, Kim Myung-jun, a senior researcher at the Nissei Basic Research Institute, cites* ***(1) improved Japan-South Korea relations since the inauguration of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, (2) rising popularity of Korean dramas and music in Japan, and (3) increased economic attractiveness of Korean men. Furthermore, in South Korea, there is a sense of burden regarding the custom of men providing housing. Kim points out that the “economic hurdle is lower” because Japanese women can split the rent with their husbands.*** *Regarding the average cost of marriage, it is around 4.5 million yen in Japan, while it is much higher in South Korea at approximately 34 million yen, and he analyzes that “this is coupled with soaring real estate prices.” Mr. Im had been saving money to buy a house since he was 20, but he was far from his goal. He recalls, “I was able to get married because my wife said, ‘I want to start with a small house for just the two of us.’*
*On the other hand, while there were over 3,000 marriages between Korean women and Japanese men about 20 years ago, that number fell to just 190 in 2025.* ***Kim analyzes that “for Korean women who are used to being treated well by men, the way Japanese men treat them may seem too pragmatic****.” Along with international marriages, immigration is also increasing. According to statistics from the Korean Ministry of Justice, the number of “marriage immigrants”—people who have moved from Japan to Korea for the purpose of marriage—has continued to increase since 2010, reaching 16,214 in 2024.”*
This is basically a decline of Japan vs the growth of Korea chart.
Women marry into wealth, simple facts.
to those who didn’t bother reading the article, this is the data WITHIN korea by the way. i feel like that’s an important context
Korean men are more masculine than Japanese men. Yet propagandists try to feminize Japan even more with gender equality agenda. Going to produce great results.
Another reason is Korean marriages have complications from dowries. This avoids that issue.
Korean men grew up on JAV and Japanese women are growing up on k drama now. So obviously there is curiosity on both sides to date each other and some get married.
Even in Japan, people are probably aware that gender conflict in South Korea is severe. But Korean women see Japanese men as even more seriously conservative than Korean men.
