Hello! I am a UK Citizen and I visit Berlin/Germany like once a month so I decided to sign up for easypass at the police station and that was fine.
I went to Berlin last week and I went to the easypass gates and it didn’t work. I ask the border people why it doesn’t work because I have signed up and everytime and every person says it’s bc we are not in the EU. I am confused?? Do I need to try multiple gates? It says here that I can sign up for it so I am confused
Thank you

When did you register? I believe everybody has to register again after EES
probably some system glitches, these automated systems..
Remember Brexit?
I semi-recently moved here and I am a UK citizen on a blue card. What exactly is the easyPASS system? I will have my first flight to another EU country this summer. Should I register for something to make my life easier?
Yeah your not in the eu but GBR is explizitly mentioned. You only need to register and it should work
Knowing Germany the electronic systems might have been switched off. That happens with the normal egates sometimes, forcing everyone to go say hello to the one border guard on duty.
I signed up for it twice (at BER). Once in September and it didn’t work (I wasn’t registered properly by the police officer who processed me), and the second time in December it has been working since then including after EES full implementation (and during its implementation).
You don’t need to try multiple egates, it should work with any. If it doesn’t work with one, it won’t work with any.
Did you get a returned copy of the application form signed and stamped by the police officer?
I didn’t the first time when it didn’t work, but after the second registration it does work. Similarly I travel at least once a month usually to BER.
Your only option would be to go again to the police service centre and ask to register again, or ask they look up your details in the system to see if you’re registered.
When I went to register the second time, they looked me up both by name and by passport number and didn’t find me in the Easypass-RTP database. After the second registration the officer confirmed I was registered, that my details were coming up with my passport and that it should work immediately (it did when leaving a few days later).
Similarly I did this as a British citizen.
These gates are also supposed to work if you have a German residence permit, but in my experience they were generally quite inconsistent. Sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn’t, with no apparent rhyme or reason to it.
