Is there no common sense in Wexford? I understand why she got the ticket, but considering the circumstances in which they became aware of it, you would expect common decency and the ticket to be canceled. Shocking behavior by the council.

      Poor thing!

No doubt they’ve been through about 20 people from the guy who gave the fine to the one who processes them to the one who sets the guidelines to the one who does the training and several supervisors in between who’ve all said “it’s not up to me” and the process keeps going until she gives up on her claim!

It would be great if the family of the patient made a big public song and dance about paying the ticket for the nurse and just outright embarrassed the council.

“On the issue of carers, Cllr Darragh McDonald had a query regarding parking permits for family members of an ailing relative. Asking that one permit be issued per household or extended family, he also wished to see the regulations amended to allow permits to be granted to those with elderly relatives. ” This is why you can’t give them permits, somebody wants them for a huge number of people straight away. Thousands of people have elderly and ailing relatives.

Anyone remember they were considered heroes during Covid? God help us if another pandemic hits, there’ll be zero goodwill left.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Give a man an ounce of bureaucratic power over people and they will turn your life into a Kafkaesque nightmare immediately.

It’s nuts that we don’t have dash badges for visiting nurses and doctors etc. I’ve a relative who’s got a nurse visiting at the moment to take bloods as part of on going cancer treatment and the nurse is always having to stress about clampers and using visitor scratch card tickets etc. Someone has to keep watch for clampers. It’s absolutely absurd that the councils can’t sort this stuff out.

It’s really total bullshit that it isn’t properly organised. That kind of healthcare is incredibly important and it’s just beyond belief that there’s so much nonsense around parking.

Around 2004 at a Cill Dara rugby match a 7 year old on the side line had a cardiac event. The order of Malta ambulance in attendance loaded up the child and headed for Tallaght.

At Naas a Garda car put on the Lights and followed them to Tallaght, where, in the A&E the cop gave the ambulance driver summonses for speeding and dangerous driving.

A few months later they are in court in Tallaght where the judge (mother of 3) orders the superintendent from Naas to show up in court that afternoon. She absolutely tore the Garda and his boss a new one.

Strongly suggested that the Garda be sent back to Templemore for extra training and fined the Garda personally €200 for wasting court time and the Gardai to pay all costs that my friend and the order of Malta had incurred by having to turn up.

Who would have expected such effectiveness from a Wexford parking officer? That’s the real story here if you ask me! Really on the ball, fair play!

I get why the ticket was issued but the appeal not being upheld is mad. Show some sense of public service and compassion FFS. It also doesn’t seem to me like it really needs some huge blanket process of passes and whatever. Just make it easy for someone in these circumstances to appeal. And it get to someone with a brain and the leeway to be a human being.

This is down to our comedy local government, where we elect and pay councillors but they have little or no power. All the power is in the hands of an unelected but very highly paid official.

The councils rally don’t care I think. Its wiring and discretion should have been used.
Had a similar nasty experience in Galway. We had to temporarily park our car on the edge of the footpath right outside the church ( city centre was no other option) to get the church sacristan to ask them to put the bollards down for my dad’s funeral. Literally parked two minutes. When my husband came back out to our car the warden was putting a ticket on it. He told him the circumstances , he basically said tough luck the ticket is issued now. Not a word of sympathy etc.
Contacted the council they were useless. Would not overturn the ticket .
The funeral directors were so disgusted with what happened they told us to give them the ticket and they would pay the fine.
