Who will tackle the corrupt appointments to the police?

> Last week it became known that a police commissioner from Kortrijk, who worked in the office of Minister of Justice Paul Van Tigchelt, was promoted to chief commissioner in a completely unlawful manner. Van Quickenborne’s man received a super promotion without having the necessary experience and seniority and without having to undergo rigorous training and selection tests.

> When the police unions raised this unadulterated political appointment in 2024, Van Tigchelt and Verlinden argued that the appointment was perfectly legal and that the unions misinterpreted that famous exception rule. That was a blatant lie, because Van Tigchelt and Verlinden knew damn well that the promotion of the Kortrijk commissioner was illegal. The Council of State had already ruled in 2016 in an identical case, in which a police commissioner who was attached to a cabinet was promoted to chief commissioner.
