I always bought it per kilo. But I remember the first time when I confused per kilo to per piece.

I’ve always bought it per piece as well, recently I’ve been seeing them being sold per Kg though. I think it goes a hand in hand with inflation. They’re trying to squeeze as much as they can from customers.

It depends. When they are all pretty much the same size, the store sells them per piece. If they vary too much in size and weight, they will sell it per kilo

Pretty normal.
You also don’t pay your coffee beans per piece but per weight.
And so with cheese and bread and flesh, and apples, and oranges and pretty much any commodity.

If the size is very different they have to by law.

That’s a new scheme, I noticed with the watermelons lately… a lot of people don’t notice that they pay the kilo price (because it always used to be price per piece) on the checkout and the supermarket makes more money. Lidl started to put labels on normally priced items that say “nur fΓΌr kurze zeit” and they don’t mean the price, they mean the product… you have to be really careful going shipping these days.

In the Discounter I’m working at it was always ler kilo, at least for 1,5 yrs now, don’t know about before

I have noticed the same with Watermelon.
Strange, probably some new Crazy EU Regulation.
In the case of Pineapple i would just take off the Leafs and leave them at the store.
