why am i seeing nothing but cruise viruses lately? has it always been like this??

I will never understand the appeal of cruising especially on these mega cruises with huge numbers of people crammed together.

Erhm is this a particularly bad strain of Noro virus? It’s a pretty common virus normally, and a 90yo dying from an illness that is known to lead to acute gastrointernal symptoms like vomitting and diarrhoea seems to be a bit excessive. (Edit for clarification: As reason for quarantining the whole ship.)
Any medical professionals with input?
Beneficial_Cobbler46 on
Why? It’s just norovirus. It’d be safer to get them off the ship and home. Norovirus is endemic globally. Who are they protecting?
This is like quarantining a ship because passengers have the flu.

Let’s strand all the cruise ships, just in case.

I thought getting sick was the primary motivator of why people get on these floating Petri dishes
I didn’t enjoy my time with Norovirus, but if somebody has a scat fetish, it might be just the ticket

So the French can stop people in a boat.

At this stage cruise ships guarantee you’ll get some sort of a virus.

It’s getting to the point that buying your parents cruise tickets could be considered attempted murder.

As that a new thing: assisted euthanasia on cruise ships?

Maybe the cruise ship industry just shouldn’t exit. Seems like it’s just a disease generating industry. Aside from being an environmental disaster

I caught norovirus last year and I have never vomited and diarrheaed so hard in my life. It was 10 hours of pure torture I needed to be hospitalized for.

Idk. It’s not so strange that a 90 yr old would die. . . or die from Norovirus. What IS strange is, knowing it is Norovirus, that they quarantined 1700 people on the ship. . . So it begs the question. . .

Good. Don’t let them leave. Bring the hospitals to them.

Cruise ships are going to die out if this keeps up. It’s absolutely revolting to know how little care is put into cleaning cabins and common areas. Who knows about the kitchen.

Cruise ships with norovirus? Did we learn nothing from COVID?

Is this a new case of a suspected Norovirus outbreak?
Wasn’t there another Noro outbreak on a cruiseship with 100 cases just days ago? Or is this the same cruiseship?

I’d rather have hantavirus than norovirus, been there done that.

I am sure by now the cruise industry has done a lot of epidemiology on how the virus spreads aboard their ships. I wonder what the most common areas aboard are responsible for the most efficient spread? The buttons on the elevators? The galley cutlery? Were I to go on one of these cruises I would not want to touch anything.

Man, I really do not understand why people like cruises when this is so damn common. Especially old people! Not only the viruses that make people ill, but the damn hoards of people offloading at tiny places! I was in Norway sat at a lovely restaurant and watched as a HUGE cruise ship pulled in. The passengers had to be shuttled from the ship to shore by little boats. I could see the queues on the ship. Then after we had explored and were walking back to our car I saw all the passangers queuing again at the quay to get back on. We had spent several hours enjoying ourselves and it seemed like all they did was queue!

Quarantine for norovirus is an odd choice. It’s not an airborne disease and the way it spreads is… specific.
Wash your hands. Always, but particularly after using the bathroom. Also wash your produce and anything else you intend to eat without cooking
